Connected helps people on Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders focus on what they have, who they are and what they can do.
Working with the ACT Drug Court, ANU and people with lived experience to build an Application that supports people to make it through their Drug Court Orders and find intrinsic motivations to reintegrate successfully.
Why is it needed?
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has one of the highest rates of return to corrective services, with 63.4% of people released from the ACT prison returning to prison or community corrections within two years.
But, evidence from a 2022 review indicates newly created Drug and Alcohol Treatment Orders (DATO)s are starting to help. But not enough people are graduating.
Belief in the power of failure and learning to adapt to the needs of the people with the lived experience.
What will it do?
A secure personal folder where appointment information and personal documents can be stored, even when offline.
Engagement system whereby people can check in to treatment centres and connect this experience with a personal calendar and reflection system.
Storytelling from people with lived experience acting as a virtual peer support tool, creating a connection between people who have succeeded and those who were tripped up by the system.
How will it be successful?
Listening closely to the feedback from people with lived experience and adapting needs as they arise.
Working across the areas of research, technology, support services and finicial support to ensure the application achieves the right outcomes and is resoured well to provide continuity of care.
